Joe the plumber may not see it, but it's as clear to me as a bright blue West Texas sky; John McCain has nothing but mocking contempt for American workers. With creepy smile and blinking eyes, McCain derides workers' struggles for better pay, safer working conditions, access to health care, and the right to organize as being "socialist." A man who has nine homes to live in can't be expected to truly understand the plight most American workers now find themselves in just to keep one roof over their head.
McCain continues to misrepresent statements by Barack Obama. Obama has simply made the case that American workers, being the most productive workforce in the world, deserve to share more in the great wealth created by their own sweat and toil. It's not a matter of taking from the top; it's a matter of those at the bottom keeping a greater share of the wealth they create. One corporate CEO taking a $1-million cut in his $50-million salary is enough to pay 20 workers a $50,000-per-year salary, or give 200 workers a $5,000-per-year raise. Hardly depriving the rich, but definitely improving the economic situation of those workers.
When McCain says that workers are the economic foundation of the country, what he really means is they are a necessary component for propping up capitalism, just like a concrete foundation is a necessary component for supporting a building. And just like concrete, he views workers simply as commodities. No humanity and no value beyond what profits they can bring for their masters. McCain doesn't believe they should share in the wealth they create. McCain loathes workers for even thinking such a thing.
