The new carnival barker for the Republican National Circus said it himself, "Bipartisanship is overrated." I'll second that, Mr. Ringmaster. That's why it's imperative that President Obama not allow his desire for Republican cooperation to override common sense. And after 12 years of a Republican-controlled economy that has been run into the ground, commom sense dictates that the Republican side of the aisle is the last place the president needs to go for guidance and advice on how to get us out of this economic hole. That's like a fireman asking an arsonist to help put out fires. The arsonist agrees to help, but then lights even more fires. That's the Republican side of Congress in a nutshell--economic arsonists who refuse to put down their matches.
By now, president Obama should have consulted enough with his economic advisors to have a general idea of which way he wants to steer the economy. Most of us who voted for Obama hope that doesn't mean just more of the same, which is what the Republicans are offering. It's time to kick the Republican obstructionists to the curb and get on with charting a far different course for America, one that will provide economic prosperity to all Americans, not just the rich.
